Tagesschau.de Makes Headlines with Sophora CMS

subshell's CMS Sophora is in action 24 hours a day at tagesschau.de, the website of the oldest and most-viewed news program on German television.

Sophora supports the demanding editorial staff working round the clock, with writing, linking, and the high-speed publishing of high-quality news reports on numerous online, mobile and TV media.

At the same time, Sophora easily deals with constant high click volumes that explode during special events and breaking news. These strengths make Sophora the primary editing tool for tagesschau.de - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Be up to Date with Sophora and the Tagesschau App

Effective immediately, via a new interface and app, users can comfortably access their favorite news website.

The updated interface allows for the publishing of previously unaccessible live streams, pod casts, photos and text directly through Sophora. The new app therefore profits from Sophora’s proven high level of functionality. This technology update was achieved without any changes to the CMS or the data model. This update can be extended and further developed for future technical innovations.

“Sophora’s new interface ensures a fast and user friendly experience within tagesschau.de’s long-standing online portal. Users can rate content and engage in dialogue with the  Tagesschau editors. Another advantage is that via the slim Sophora interface, all leading types  of smart phones are supported.”

Jan Boddin, Managing Director, subshell GmbH.

ARD Teletext: News on Demand with Sophora CMS

Users can access all the latest news on demand, independent from the current television program. For Sophora this is no problem, even with approximately 5.4 million teletext viewers per day (2009, source: GfK-Television Research).

In addition, the news reports for the teletext originate from Tagesschau's online editorial team. Sophora publishes a live ticker along with the news reports in ARD-teletext and the pages of Deutschlandtrend [Trends in Germany].

Eclipse.org: An Editorial CMS Client Based on Eclipse RCP

"Use of rich client applications based on Eclipse RCP has increased widely in recent years, both in the open source and in the commercial field. Eclipse RCP is employed more and more in sections where web clients were predominantly in use. One good example of this development is the content management system (CMS) “Sophora” from the German company subshell GmbH (http://www.subshell.com). Sophora has proven itself during the last years at the editorial office of tagesschau.de, Germany's leading news homepage. This article describes the experience of subshell's development team while developing the Sophora Deskclient and the article outlines certain obstacles the team encountered and their resolutions."
