Among Sophora's users are broadcasters Bayerischer Rundfunk, Das Erste, Hessischer Rundfunk, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Radio Bremen, Saarländischer Rundfunk and WDR.

NDR Website

As a large and dynamic broadcasting corporation, NDR needs an agile and extremely high-performance CMS and they chose Sophora to meet their demanding needs.

With our CMS, we offer a scalable system for the administration of dozen of websites and hundreds of thousands of documents, allowing more than 100 editors to work simultaneously, perfect for a demanding client like the NDR.

And the NDR lost no time or productivity during installation and staff training. Sophora is extremely user-friendly and learning the system is quick. The web pages of TV shows such as Landpartie, NDR Talkshow, Kulturjournal, Extra or Nordmagazin could be efficiently maintained thanks to short training periods. A comprehensive broadcaster like the NDR needs to publish via several channels. This complex task is easy for Sophora. Publishing on various media such as intranet, mobile phones, RSS, teletext and podcasts is a key feature of the CMS.

Sophora NDR

It is important to the NDR that the layouting of individual areas is editable at high speed and that they have a barrier-free website. These challenges are not a problem for Sophora. Thanks to the structured programming of our Sophora libraries, NDR’s webmasters are able to set-up their websites quickly and easily and are able to establish a direct link to the TV software infrastructure.

“subshell developed Sophora in 2006 upon our request and therefore it was developed to directly suit our needs. The system is easy to use for our editors and, due to its inherent flexibility, was smoothly integrated into our existing infrastructure.”

Niels Rasmussen, Leiter Programmbereich Online & Multimedia, Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), September 2011

About Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest (French: Concours Eurovision de la Chanson) is an annual competition held among many of the active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Each member country submits a song to be performed on live television and radio and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition. The contest has been broadcast every year since its inauguration in 1956 and is one of the longest-running television programmes in the world. It is also one of the most watched non-sporting events in the world, with audience figures having been quoted in recent years as anything between 100 million and 600 million internationally.

Sophora and the WDR

In 2010 the WDR (West Deutsche Rundfunk) staged a re-launch of their popular website wdr2.de in order to make it more use friendly and to increase readership.

wdr2.de is the online presence of news and information focussed radio program WDR 2. WDR 2 is one of the most successful radio programs in Germany, with the most listeners in Germany’s Nordrhein-Westfalen province, and is one of the 5 most popular radio programs in Germany.

The re-launch of www.wdr.de on August 10.2011 was the first step in the gradual conversion of the online offerings of the WDR to Sophora. The new CMS offers the WDR a uniform and user-friendly basis to support a busy website. The switch to Sophora started with the WDR 2 website and was then followed by a staged rollout to the WDR’s other offerings. The technical processes progressed smoothly and were supervised along the way by subshell.

“The technical standardization within the WDR is crucial for the development of our online content. Sophora is the basis for the harmonization of the entire WDR online presence, since it can integrate various digital formats, and is very user friendly.”
