Olympics with Sophora

In use for the ARD Sophora handles the immense recalls only with existing devices. There is no need for a content delivery network. Visitors can individually assemble the dynamic website of olympia.ard.de according to their interests and find all the information about competition results. The official website sportschau.de/olympia of ARD provided current videos, images, background reports, results, tables and a live ticker during the Olympic Games in Sochi. Bayerischer Rundfunk took the leadership for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The website was already launched in October 2013 and accompanied failure-free all sixteen Olympic days from 7th to 23rd of February 2014.

Also, the live streaming offers for the various games have been received positively. Interested people in the Olympics used the live stream parallel between 270.000 and 2,9 Million times day by day (Source: ard.de).

For the Summer Olympic Games in London ARD provided a wide-ranging online and live streaming offer. The website sportschau.de/olympia recorded with 144 million page impressions a demand ten times higher than on the Summer Olympic Games 2008 in Peking. Especially live streams, running up to six times parallel, were particularly popular by the online audience. They have been requested over 32,4 million times (Source: daserste.de).

Norddeutscher Rundfunk was in charge the news coverage about the Olympic Games in London for TV, radio and the internet.

Around 10 million delivered live streams and over 55 million page impressions within two weeks: The Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver were even online ground-breaking.

For the first time Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) had the leadership for ARD´s TV, radio and online reporting of the Olympic Games. MDR opted for subshell partner Sybit (www.sybit.de) and their partner DREFA MSG (Leipzig) when realizing the website of the Olympics.

Summer Olympic Games in Peking 2008

Peking.Ard.de provided not only background and service information’s about athletes and the competitions, but also a wide-ranging live reporting. Hit rates were therefore very high; the live videos which were offered for the first time have been called up over a million times. Unauthorised access was prevented with the help of a Geo-Blocking.

By the integration of content from external applications the editorial department was able to additionally offer besides their own content, also forums, blogs, data bases and third-party media content. Sophora enabled a consistent performance and a controlled draw. Not least in the seamless integration of the results into the website our client benefited from our know-how in the handling of sports events.
